It was quite exciting in the early stages, but it became too repetitive later. There's no positive feedback for researching upgrades. Stage 3 gives a level 2 robot, and it's only in Stage 7 that you get a level 3. All the upgrades in between just add more steps to the supply chain which means more repetitive work to do.
