The play tells the story of a reunion between two former lovers in a Soho Italian restaurant. Rickman's character ("he") is a London book editor who writes poetry in his spare time (unsuccessfully). 良好地还原了诗情的聪明改编。遐想飘飘然而尴尬又充满自嘲，现实温柔同时无情反似孤魂之梦，优雅旖旎并且冷抑颓朽。电影语言的择取恰切。基本的对切，辅以大量闪回、慢镜、主观大特写，首尾逃出主场景。独白是血骨，少量对白始终与其保持平衡。Rickman与Thompson的演技轻巧担起本片重担，尤其前者台词功力堪为头面。
