Scott, Stiles and Sheriff Stilinski finally get evidence to prove Matt is responsible for the murders, but Matt takes all three hostage, including Scott's mother, Melissa, when she arrives. Gerard persuades Allison to exact revenge on Derek for bringing her mother to commit suicide. Matt reveals to Scott his reason for the murders: in 2006, all the victims were at a party at Isaac's house, where Matt had come to meet Isaac. They had thrown Matt in the pool and left him to drown despite him yelling that he can't swim. Melissa finally sees Scott as a werewolf and cries in response, causing Scott to flee and run into Gerard. Gerard drowns Matt in the lake, with Peter secretly watching. Gerard then finds the Kanima and becomes its new master, shocking Peter, who leaves abruptly.
